A challenge met

Since the espadrille is known for its casual side, we choose it at first glance for the comfort it gives us. But Payote doesn’t stop there! The challenge we set ourselves was to be able to offer authentic, trendy shoes made in France. To do this, our objective is to restore the image of this artisanal product by giving it a boost of freshness. Between tradition and daring, our collection of women's espadrilles is fully in line with the casual chic spirit. You will find both traditional espadrilles with classic cotton canvas as well as eccentric models that smell of the 21st century. There is also the happy medium, printed espadrilles. Floral, exotic or wild with leopard, these are in a classic cut but offer you a touch of creativity to add pep to outfits.

French made

We make all our women's espadrilles in France in the capital of rope sandals: Mauléon. This town nestled in the heart of the Basque Country is home to all the artisanal French espadrilles factories. The workshop with which we work therefore perpetuates unique know-how. It highlights the talent of artisans specializing in the manufacture of espadrilles. Respecting tradition was at the heart of our concerns. So, it was quite natural that we chose this family workshop which has been operating for over 150 years. Thus, all of our Payote products benefit from its expertise. Eleven steps are necessary to manufacture these shoes made from soft and natural materials. To limit our environmental impact, our materials are chosen with the greatest care. The canvas of the plain and striped models is made from recycled cotton. The insole is made of natural jute and the outsole is made of recycled rubber. Our eco-responsible commitment being a priority, we have created a collection of recycled espadrilles from marine waste.

Unique collections

Each of our collections seeks to be a source of inspiration. Therefore, we do not skimp on originality. For us, espadrille canvases are an opportunity that leaves room for discovery and escape. Thus, we offer you a wide choice of unique and original patterns. Toucans, lush vegetation, sushi, calaveras , our prints take you on a journey by sharing their colorful world with you. Each pair having its own character, we gave them little names. You will find, for example, models named Laëtitia, Roxane or Eva.

In addition to exuding creativity and originality, our collections are also created in limited editions. Each year, we only order a certain quantity of pairs for each model in order to better manage our stocks. The objective is to limit the number of unsold items and not have to sell off our products. Beyond the limited editions, we have also chosen to release only two new collections per year. When we know that fast fashion releases new collections almost every month, we obviously suspect the terrible environmental impact that ensues. This is why at Payote we only release one new collection in summer and one in winter. Far from the frenzy of unbridled novelty, we prefer to highlight our commitment to more responsible and reasonable fashion.
